New Page 1 In Terms of College Degrees Our Part of Florida is One of America's Hottest Education and Research Centers

The sprawling, modern campus of Central Florida Community College on State Road 200 in Ocala, offers a broad and varied curriculum. The excellent nursing school offers LPN and RN courses in home health care, occupational therapy, emergency medicine and technical support. In partnership with nearby St. Leo's College, CFCC offers four year degrees so local students do not have to leave Ocala to pursue an advanced degree. To accommodate the growth of the student population in Marion County, CFCC was awarded a $15,000,000 expansion grant from the federal government.

Virtually every field of study at every level is available at the world famous University of Florida in Gainesville, just 45 miles from Marion Oaks. Established in 1853, with a current enrollment of 35,000 students, the U of F has consistently been a national leader in higher education, especially in the disciplines of medicine, law, veterinary science and agriculture.

Among other notable institutions of higher learning in the Golden Triangle are:

  • Stetson University in Deland, which is best known for its excellent law school, located in St. Petersburg
  • Florida Southern University in Lakeland which is famous for its striking Frank Lloyd Wright architecture
  • The University of Central Florida in Orlando
  • The University of South Florida in Tampa
  • The University of Tampa with its striking Moorish architecture

No matter which public or private university you choose, Florida residents will tell you that our state university system is one of the best higher education values in the United States.

And that same commitment to excellence is evident in Marion County's 6 high schools, 7 middle schools, 27 elementary schools and 15 private and parochial schools.

Marion County is the home of America's newest and most progressive secondary education facility. Within our school boundaries, just five miles from Marion Oaks, is the unique, 70 acre, 10 building campus of the West Port combined secondary school complex. At full capacity this educational hub will serve 1,500 high school students and 1,200 middle school students.

And that same commitment to excellence is evident in Marion County's 6 high schools, 7 middle schools, 27 elementary schools and 15 private and parochial schools. We're proud of the fact that of the 67 school districts in Florida, Marion County's district schools are rated 5th. In fact, when Japanese educators asked the US Department of Education to select an ideal American school system for them to study, their recommendation was to visit the schools in Marion County.
